Summer holidays, carers and a little quiet time

The school summer holidays are always a time of a mixture of emotions and facial expressions for yours truly; I enjoy the sporadic few minutes of peace and quiet, the smiles, then we have the children’s boredom and being surprised at how much they eat. The noise levels are something else, aren’t they?! Please say I am not alone.

I am a parent to teenagers who are all neurodiverse with learning disabilities. I have previous career experience of working with parents who are in the same boat as me. Because of this, in August 2026 I ran a Carer’s special offer. This was a lovely time for me. Meeting carer parents (some new ones too) and being able to give them some quiet time through a facial or massage. It is a real privilege to be trusted with their free time and to watch them float out of my room.

It has made me wonder whether this offer needs to be repeated every so often, or long term. Also… is there a need for the youngsters, or not-so-youngsters, who are neurodiverse to know that my room is a place where I can go with their flow and they can have facials or massages? It’s a thinker. I would love to know your thoughts.
